About the opportunity:

Avenue Code needs a Java Architect who embodies that elusive combination of technical acumen and consultative ability. Reporting directly to the CTO, the position is effectively that of a Principal Consultant within our organization, making the right candidate a subject matter expert who can work across multiple projects within multiple accounts as a trusted advisor.

This individual is familiar with leading eCommerce platform/third party solutions, understands the business needs associated with the Retail vertical, and actively researches where digital transformation is taking the industry. The right candidate embraces whiteboarding with executive technical clients, delights in making the arcane consumable for business users, appreciates that collaborative design is a great teaching opportunity, and codes on evenings and weekends for fun.

You are a self-starter, independent, reliable, and the avid consumer of technology that promises to solve complex business problems. You are exceptionally hands on when you need to be, not because you have to, but because you want to. You enjoy teaching others about the latest technology that you have discovered, and are able to deliver solutions that make sense for the needs of the project or the client. You have a vast experience in delivering solutions for businesses operating with $500 million+ in revenue per annum, and you appreciate the consulting (as opposed to product) architects are a very special breed. Ivory tower architects who no longer code need not to apply.

Required Qualifications/Experience:

  • 10+ years of solid experience with continuously demonstrated growth path
  • Minimum Education Level: B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Lead technical initiatives with complex interdependencies, high impact to the department or organization
  • Expert problem solver
  • Partner with product management to help define road map
  • Serve as the domain expert of the application/system
  • Create a close working relationship with the business to identify the pain points and provide better services
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to manage expectations
  • Participate in technical design review meetings
  • Responsible for application/system dependencies and deliverables
  • Serve as a decision maker for technical project issues
  • Be the primary point person for technical/design escalations

Required Technical Skills:

  • Excellent system analysis and design skills
  • Must have working experience with various search technologies: Lucene, SOLR, Endeca, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of Agile methodology
  • Solid hands-on technical understanding and grasp of various systems within eCommerce solutions (ATG, Hybris, Adobe AEM are good examples)
  • Expert in Java and various supporting frameworks such as SPRING, Spark, and Hibernate
  • Expertise in addressing complex database and Integration problems with disparate systems
  • Experience with Big Data, Hadoop and related technologies
  • Experience with Cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services, VMWare, Cludera, etc.
  • Infrastructure automation using Chef, puppet, or ansible
  • Integration software such as TIBCO, MuleSoft, Mashable
  • Test automation, Continuous integration/Delivery (Hudson, Gitlab, Maven, Nexus, SONR)
  • Experience implementing service-oriented (SOA) architectures, web services, and micro-services
  • Experience implementing content management systems like Adobe AEM
  • Experience designing systems for extremely high traffic and transaction volumes
  • Experience in similar roles at prominent internet companies/consulting firms, with detailed knowledge about scaling issues and associated solutions
  • Ability to work with business users, product managers, QA, Release, and UI and Platform
  • Engineering teams to develop great e-commerce applications
